Great North Run: Update Two

Looming on the not-so-distant horizon, the GNR lurks around our minds, our daily routines have shifted and been shaped by it’s subtle, pressured control…

Who ‘we kidding!!

1. We’re not some high-brow intellectual blog, you’re not here to be stimulated by our prose.

2. 8th September CANNOT come quickly enough, we’re surprisingly loving training, bouncing off each other, and although it has been hard, a tough adjustment, it IS rewarding.

Updates

Bekka & Graham just smashed their longest-ever run – 16km. Dan’s on a similar path via the Runna app (all highly recommend). Neal’s training twice a day, and as long as he doesn’t break himself doing CrossFit should be set. Craig’s banking the miles and holding everyone else together. We’ve got a Reece running with us too. Reece is elusive, appearing only for Katsu, his numbers are unquantifiable.

This Week

We’ve been TREATED. Our in-house Yogi Dan(P) led the team through a mobility-based, hour-long Yoga flow. Movements were made and previously unseen levels of agility were discovered.

Alex Bishop attended GSN HQ and quite literally had his hands full of us for a whole day. Nothing like a proper sports massage to zone out/cry/achieve zen. Dan(E) had never had one before, but reckons his first run after was like “running without legs”, not sure how that translates, but he assures us it’s a positive.

For a deeper read on the benefits of Sports Massage, The University of Warwick summarises them in this list:

  1. Aids circulation.
  2. Relieves muscular tension.
  3. Enhances tissue permeability.
  4. Can aid the breakdown of scar tissue.
  5. May prevent injuries.
  6. Pre-massage can optimise your performance.
  7. Relieve muscle tensions.
  8. You get to relax.
