Uni Drop Out, My Bootstrapped Business and Selling Our 10,000,000th Meal.

The most expensive commodity is time.

2024 marked twelve years of business for GSN, and as I reflect on how the company has grown and evolved through various challenges and opportunities, I also consider how this journey has shaped me personally.

As a CEO, having a clear vision for your organisation, its mission, goals, and market position is fundamental. This vision serves as the company’s true north, guiding us forward. While every organisation has a mission statement and a vision for achieving it, it’s easy to lose sight of your unique identity and the reasons you entered the business in the first place.

Growth often brings the pressure to increase revenue at all costs. The temptation to rapidly expand output and sales can lead to compromises that undermine what initially made you appealing in the marketplace. Staying true to your core values and identity is crucial as you navigate this journey.

Throughout the years, I have consistently centred my decisions around the business’s integrity. As I look to the future of GSN, I envision a path of steady growth and stability built on a solid foundation.

Three key lessons are at the forefront of my mind as I embark on this next chapter of my journey with GSN:

Changing Perceptions

Initially, GSN sought to fill a gap in the fitness market by providing affordable, healthy food that is accessible to all. As my business has grown, my perspective on our products and their offerings has evolved. The significance of nutrition for overall health is becoming increasingly apparent in today’s globally connected society. GSN aims to be a solution for everyone, providing healthy food options regardless of age or level of physical activity. Education remains at the forefront of our mission as we continue our journey. We are committed to supporting people to live longer, healthier lives while changing perceptions about the health food industry.

Making Difficult Choices

Life is a series of choices; the most straightforward options often come with the highest costs. I have always trusted my instincts and based my decisions on the business’s principles. This approach has ensured steady growth and built resilience, enabling us to navigate both expansion and fluctuations in sales. Our holistic strategy and avoidance of rapid expansion have been key to our success and the foundation of our business as we move forward.

Time is My Most Important Asset

Balancing work and family life is a challenge many in modern society face. I often ask myself at what point my business will be stable enough to allow me to shift my focus more towards my family and away from the business. The answer is never unless I am willing to change my mindset. The drive to create a successful business can often cause us to lose sight of what truly matters. It is essential to dedicate time to yourself and your family consciously and to accept that you cannot be everywhere at once. For me, this meant building a great team and trusting them to do their jobs. Allowing individuals to take ownership of their roles and make decisions while holding them accountable for their part of the business is vital for fostering trust and creating a successful team. This approach is the only way to gain the time I need to ensure a happy, balanced life.

GSN in 2025

As we look to the future, GSN remains committed to protecting and enhancing our strengths, particularly in wholesale and e-commerce. As CEO, I will continue to evolve my leadership style and empower my team, allowing me to focus less on day-to-day operations and more on championing our unique strengths and values as the founder of this organisation. GSN has always prioritised innovation and differentiation, bringing unique products to market. Our refined focus will centre on areas where we have a strong market presence, ensuring we deliver exceptional products that meet our customers’ needs, all while staying true to our vision—one that is not about size, but excellence and understanding our customers.

My Final Thought

Reflecting on these twelve years, I realise that the challenges we faced were opportunities for learning and growth. They have not only shaped the company but also moulded my leadership style. Moving forward, I am excited to see how GSN will continue to evolve while staying true to the values that have guided us thus far.

Staying true to your core values is crucial. It’s important to remember that success isn’t just measured by financial growth but by maintaining the integrity and uniqueness that set you apart. The journey of building GSN has taught me the importance of adaptability, resilience, and staying grounded in our original purpose. As we continue to grow, I am committed to ensuring that we uphold our foundational principles while embracing innovation to meet the evolving needs of our clients.

The inspiration that drove me to embark on this journey was to make healthy eating as accessible, affordable, and enjoyable as possible for a wide audience. In 2025, we will take another significant step towards realising that vision.
